1971

In 1971, Franz-Josef Wernze started managing a group of professionals—two of them from the Tax Inspectorate of the Federal Republic of Germany—and created a tax consultancy office in Essen, Germany, called ETL. Within a few years, the firm had become established and successful, offering services in the German oil distribution sector and to small and medium-sized industrial and service companies in this country.
The firm and its associates have achieved this positioning by distancing themselves from the prevailing model in the tax advisory sector led by the so-called “big four,” both in terms of its target clientele (looking beyond large listed companies) and the role of professionals with their clients (from junior to partner in GLOBAL ETL, they must be closely involved with their clients).

2011

The GLOBAL ETL group began its international expansion in 2011 after achieving a successful position in Germany, where it ranks 5th in the ranking of professional services firms by turnover and professional volume. This international expansion entailed finding partners with a similar philosophy and objectives to those of ETL who could join the global project without sacrificing their individual personalities and characteristics.

2014

In 2014, GLOBAL ETL landed in Spain, with the initial integration of firms in Madrid and Barcelona, reaching seventh place in the ranking of professional services firms. It is continuing to expand into other cities and services with the aim of keeping its position in the top ten of this ranking so that small and medium-sized Spanish companies have a reference and trusted firm to support their development.

As a member of the ETL GLOBAL group and based on its past professional relationships, our firm collaborates closely with other law firms specialised in advising in any branch of law in more than 50 foreign jurisdictions (Europe, United States, Latin America, Asia…), to give coverage with a clear vocation of excellence to meet all our clients’ needs.

Nowadays, the GLOBAL ETL group ranks fifth in professional services firms in Spain (Expansión 2023), has branches in more than 50 countries, and has more than 1,300 offices, employing more than 18,000 professionals providing services in the following areas:
